Erik Zupanič is an ass. prof. at the University of Ljubljana and the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, the head of the Scanning Probe Microscopy Laboratory, and a senior researcher at the Cold Atoms Lab at the Jožef Stefan Institute. His expertise lies in designing cutting-edge experiments and novel experimental equipment to explore new frontiers in quantum science. He is also a co-founder of AtomQL, a company advancing technology for quantum devices.
His main research interests include the observation and manipulation of quantum phenomena, leveraging both ultra-cold or hot atomic vapors as well as advanced scanning probe techniques. His work focuses on understanding various quantum systems, with an emphasis on translating basic research into applied innovations in the rapidly evolving field of quantum technology, particularly quantum sensing and quantum computation. His mentoring philosophy empowers the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers to tackle complex challenges independently, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and the skills to excel in academia and industry.
