Matjaž Gomilšek is a scientific associate at the JSI and an assistant professor of physics at the FMF UL. At JSI he is the head of the Laboratory for numerical physics and a member of the Laboratory for measurements at large-scale user facilities. He is a recipient of multiple prizes for his research work and a principal investigator of multiple research projects.
His main research interests lie in quantum and topological magnetism, and related ab initio simulations of condensed matter systems. As part of the latter, he is developing new numerical and theoretical approaches for an efficient description of the quantum effects of light nuclei and muons in materials, which are crucial for understanding the properties of both quantum and topological magnets, as well as high-Tc superconductors.
