Miha Ravnik is scientific councilor at the Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS) and a full professor of physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana (FMF UL). At IJS, he leads the research program for the Physics of Soft Matter, Surfaces, and Nanostructures, and at FMF UL, he heads the Group for the Physics of Soft and Partially Ordered Matter, serves as vice-dean, and deputy head of the physics department. He is the Central European representative in the International Liquid Crystal Society and a reviewer for a range of prominent scientific journals and project schemes (including ERC and MSCA).
His main scientific interest lies in the physics of complex – passive and active – soft matter, in connection with photonics and artificial intelligence approaches. The central methodological approaches are computational modeling, simulations, and theory, and recently, the use of neural networks. The main interest within this project is the development and work on quantum and quantum-like methods for protein simulation, in a strong established collaboration with the biopharmaceutical company Novartis.
