Rok Zaplotnik is a research associate at the Jožef Stefan Institute and an associate professor at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School. He works in the Plasma Laboratory at the Department of Surface Engineering.
His main research interests are the characterization of plasmas with catalytic and Langmuir probes, optical emission spectroscopy, vacuum ultraviolet spectroscopy, laser absorption spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. He is extensively involved in the design of plasma systems, processing of materials in plasma, plasma-surface interactions and plasma-enhanced deposition. In his work, he uses low-pressure RF and MW plasmas, atmospheric and sub-atmospheric plasmas, and has also performed measurements in fusion plasma divertors. Recently, he has been extensively researching the use of plasmas for water cleaning.
